Course Overview
Understanding EPC Contracts – Basic Level is an introductory course designed for non-native English speakers working in engineering, construction, and project management.
This course explains the fundamentals of EPC contracts using clear, simple English, avoiding complex legal expressions typically used by native speakers.
This course explains EPC contracts mainly from the contractor’s perspective, but it also enables owners and developers to understand the overall structure and fundamentals of EPC contracts in a clear and practical way.
The lectures are delivered in clear, simple English for non-native speakers, and English subtitles are provided to ensure full understanding.
Key topics include contract price, liabilities, limitation of liability, claims for extension of time and additional costs.
This course is ideal for engineers, sales staff, and project managers at international or overseas projects who want to understand EPC contracts clearly and practically in English.

About the Instructor
Takahiro Hongo
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Tohoku University and a Master’s degree in Law from Hitotsubashi University.
I worked for 10 years in the Legal Department of Toshiba Corporation, where I was involved in international EPC contracts for overseas power and plant projects.
After leaving Toshiba, I became an independent consultant and have been providing EPC contract training for plant engineering companies.
I am the author of several books on EPC contracts, including Practical Guide to EPC Contracts, which is one of the most widely read EPC contract reference books in Japan and has also been translated and published in Taiwan.
Since 2024, I have been delivering EPC contract training in English to overseas plant engineering companies, using clear and practical English tailored for non-native professionals.
